Nothing like a big sigh of relief and an accompanying yelp of unfettered joy about a job well done--a deployment with zero explosions--as expressed by Evette Atkin, Systems Librarian for the Michigan Evergreen project at the Michigan Library Consortuim (MLC). Kudos to the Branch District Library for being MLC's first member library to migrate to Evergreen.
Here's the news, straight from MLC:
"Their new catalog, online at http://bdl.michiganevergreen.org , is part of Michigan Evergreen, Michigan’s open-source ILS project. Migrations for the remaining Michigan Evergreen pilot libraries are scheduled for this fall: Grand Rapids Public Library on September 29, Niles District Library on October 6, and Traverse Area District Library on November 10."
WOOT indeed! Congratulations, Michigan libraries for innovating, implementing, and celebrating with much style and panache!
--> For more information about open source, look to future Cookbook chapters to be published in late summer...
--> And if you can't wait until then, check out another innovative Michigan librarian over at the Fiddling Librarian. Kevin Smith, from the Cass District Library, is always cookin' up something interesting with open source at his library (when he's not contributing the MaintainIT Cookbooks, that is).
